Rome-Ciampino (CIA) to Rome

Airport Transfer - Rome-Ciampino to Rome

The second international airport in Rome is Ciampino Airport, located just east of the city. Depending on the type of transfer, you can reach downtown Rome in 20 to 45 minutes. The airport is mainly served by low-cost airlines. Transfer costs from Ciampino Airport to Rome are very reasonable for an international airport, with fares starting from as low as 2.70 euros to get into the city center.

Airport Transfer with Shuttle Bus

Several private companies offer a shuttle bus service at Ciampino Airport. In about 45 minutes, these buses equipped with Wi-Fi will comfortably take you to Rome's main train station (Termini). The buses depart directly from the forecourt/parking area of Ciampino Airport and return there as well. Depending on the provider, the buses run every 30 to 45 minutes from the airport or from Termini in the opposite direction. The travel time takes about 35 to 45 minutes depending on traffic conditions.

Tickets start at 4.00 euros per person for online deals, but the average price is usually around 5.00 or 6.00 euros depending on the provider. Tickets become even cheaper when you book both the outward and return journeys together.

Tickets can be purchased directly at Ciampino Airport or in advance online. Online tickets for the airport transfer from Ciampino Airport to Termini Rome can be bought directly from Terravision or Sit Bus. This saves you waiting time at the sales counters at the airport and often also saves on the transfer price, which can be higher directly at the airport on more demanded days.

Airport Transfer by Public Bus

The cheapest way to get to downtown Rome is by public bus. Two different bus lines stop at Ciampino Airport. One is bus line 520, which goes to the "Subaugusta" terminal where you can transfer to Metro Line A to reach the city center. The other is bus line 720, which takes you to the "Laurentina" stop where you can transfer to Metro Line B. Tickets for both buses cost 1.20 euros, plus 1.50 euros for the metro ticket, totaling only 2.70 euros per trip. Expect about 1 to 1.5 hours of travel time including transfers.

Airport Transfer by Taxi

Another option for airport transfer is by taxi. With a fixed price of 30.00 euros for a trip to the city center within the city walls, there are no surprises in cost. This is particularly worth considering if your flight arrives late at night or is delayed. With four passengers, the cost would be 7.50 euros per person per trip, only slightly more expensive than the shuttle buses. The taxi takes you directly to your accommodation.

Airport Transfer by Train (AirLink)

Unfortunately, Ciampino Airport does not have a train station at the terminal. The Ciampino train station (Zone B) is located a bit away from the airport. However, a COTRAL company shuttle bus provides a direct connection to it. The bus takes about 5 minutes to travel from the airport to the train station. A single ticket can be purchased directly on the bus or at the airport terminal and currently costs 1.20 euros. From the station, train lines FL4 and FL6 head towards the main train station (Termini) and reach it in just about 12 minutes. An additional ticket for 1.50 euros is needed for this train journey, which can be purchased at Ciampino station. Alternatively, a time-based ticket (e.g., a weekly pass) for Zone A + B can also be used for the train ride.

We have had very good experiences with this transfer. With a good train connection, you can be at Termini main station in less than 45 minutes.
